A native of Lorraine (France) Gilles HERBILLON is a versatile musician, trumpet player, pedagogue, conductor and composer, and in particular a brass instrument specialist.

 

Director of the Troyes followed by the Reims Conservatoires, he has worked for 22 years to enable a wide audience to access practical arts as well as to open up teaching possibilities not only to the most highbrow but also topical and popular repertoires.

 

First Prize in trumpet at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and C.A.  (Certificat d’Aptitude) qualified teacher for both trumpet and Chamber Music and C.A. qualified Conservatoire Director, Gilles HERBILLON has been, since January 2016, the trumpet professor at the Reims Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional.

Impassioned by teaching, he is the author of several educational works adapted to all levels of learning.  During conferences and courses his contributions sustain pedagogical musical research in general and in particular that of the trumpet.

 

Composer, alongside well-known professional artists at the same time as passionate amateur musicians, Gilles HERBILLON belongs to a generation of creators in whom traditional, modern and multi cultural aesthetics converge. He expects nothing apart from spontaneity and sincerity.  Today his catalogue of works comprises around 100 opuses.

 

Leading a career as a lyrical conductor with RENOUVEAU LYRIQUE PRODUCTION, he tackles the great works from Offenbach to Strauss, including Bizet, Mozart, Messager and Puccini.

 

Gilles HERBILLON directs various orchestral formations both professional and amateur.  Youth and student orchestras of all levels are to him a source of human encounters and forever-renewable experiences with these aspiring artists, hungry to discover repertoires and new harmonies.

 

Major soloists have acknowledged his innate sense when directing, amongst whom are: Henri Demarquette, Renaud Capuçon, Patrice Fontanarosa, Guy Touvron, Bruno Rigutto, Laurent Cabasso, Sylvie Hue, François Leleux, Andras Schiff, François Thuillier, Hervé Joulain…

 

Author of many scores, Gilles HERBILLON is currently working on several compositions on the theme of the Great War for diverse orchestral, vocal and choral formations.  A large part of his catalogue is accessible through the following editions: Billaudot – Robert Martin – Marc Reift – Depleinvent – Fuzeau – Lafitan.

 

Gilles HERBILLON is actually principal Trumpet of the Symphonic Band "Grand-Est" AQUILON  since 2018.
